As part of our commitment to maintaining a respectful and serene environment for all who visit and honor their loved ones, we will be conducting a thorough clean-up of decorations.
Our next upcoming periodic clean-up of decorations at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery is scheduled for June 3.
This clean-up includes the removal of any items that have become weathered, damaged, or are not in compliance with our cemetery guidelines. Below, we’ve highlighted some of our key rules and recommendations regarding cemetery decorations to help you prepare:
Guidelines for Placing Flowers and Decorations on Graves:
Fresh Cut Flowers: These are welcome at any time if placed in appropriate, self-supporting containers or vases that can be easily moved, such as green cone vases. When flowers become unsightly, the cemetery staff will remove them along with their container.
Sub-Surface Vases: We recommend using sub-surface vases, which can be inverted into the ground when not in use. These vases are convenient for visitors and contribute to the general appearance and safety of the cemetery.
Potted Plants: These may be placed on graves only on four special days: Easter Sunday, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and Father's Day. We ask that families pick up potted plants and other decorations within one week after each special day.
Placement: Please place decorations close to the memorial to prevent tripping hazards.
Columbarium Niche Decorations:
Decorations should be limited to the vase supplied by the cemetery and should not infringe on adjacent crypts or niches.
No decorations may be placed on the floor.
Items Not Permitted in the Cemetery:
Glass containers, wire pins, and holes in the sod to hold containers, potted plants, or vases are not permitted due to safety hazards.
Balloons, pictures, votive lights, urns, and statues are not allowed on cemetery grounds.
Please remember that the cemetery is not responsible for lost decorations. We kindly ask that you retrieve any decorations you wish to keep before the clean-up date. Items not collected by this time will be respectfully removed and disposed of by our team.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the parish at 302-658-7017.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain the beauty and dignity of St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
